Who is Afeni Shakur?

"Dear One," "Lover of the people," Afeni Shakur was born Alice Faye Williams on January 10, 1947, in Lumberton, NC. Moving to New York City with her sister Glo to join their mother, she faced the challenges of this new world. In an effort to seek knowledge and liberation, Afeni joined the Harlem chapter of the Black Panther Party, where she met the love of her life, Lumumba Shakur. She quickly rose to the rank of section leader. On April 2, 1968, Afeni and her comrades were arrested and accused of conspiracy to murder and other charges. She fought for justice and represented herself in court, all while pregnant with the world's greatest artist, Tupac Amaru Shakur.
